SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Western Michigan women's soccer team
fell to Indiana, 4-1, to open the Notre Dame adidas Invitational on Friday
evening at Alumni Stadium.
The Broncos took an early 1-0 lead just four minutes in on a
goal by Stephanie Skowneski but Indian struck back with four unanswered goals.
IU's Abby Smith, Carly Samp and Orianica Velasquez scored
three goals in a five minute span to put the game away. Smith's goal tied the
game 1-1 at 20:33 in the first period, while Samp followed at 25:05 and
Velsaquez pushed the lead to 3-1 at 25:40. Monica Melink added Indiana's fourth
goal in the 50th minute.
The Broncos actually outshot the Hoosiers 13-12 and landed
seven on net.
Western Michigan plays Tulsa on Sunday at 11 a.m. to close
out their weekend in South Bend.
