Broncos Get Back On Track With Win Over CSU

CHICAGO, Ill. - Casey Cullen tied one of the most hallowed records in program history, and the Western Michigan men's tennis team bounced back from a two-match losing streak to take their third straight win in the Mid-American Conference, defeating Midwest region opponent Chicago State 7-0 at the Chicago State Tennis Facility on Friday.  With the win, the Broncos improve to 12-10 overall, 3-0 in the MAC.

Cullen teamed with Pablo Olivarez to win the No. 2 doubles match, giving Cullen the 107th doubles win of his career.  That ties him with WMU great R.J. Dunkle; Cullen will get his next opportunity to surpass Dunkle on April 16 against Ball State.  Cullen and Olivarez registered a perfect 8-0 shutout over the pairing of Michael Chew and Dave Regus.

Elsewhere in doubles play, the pair of Michael Calderone and Kazuya Komada defeated Ankit Chopra and Viet Lam 8-0 in the No. 1 singles match.  The win gave Calderone his 208th career overall win, tying him with Jose Orozco on the all-time list.

The Broncos were also perfect in singles play, taking all five singles matches; they picked up the sixth singles match by default.  Calderone took the No. 1 singles with a 6-3, 6-4 performance, moving him to 209 career wins.  Olivarez opened the proceedings with a 6-1, 6-1 win, and Simon Blomberg followed him with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 performance in the No. 4 singles.  Cullen and Komada also added two set wins.
