KALAMAZOO -- The Western Michigan hockey team shutout the sixth ranked Ferris State Bulldogs, 3-0, to complete the weekend sweep in front of a sold out crowd at Lawson Ice Arena on Saturday night.
Dane Walters netted two goals on the night and
Will Kessel tallied his second collegiate goal as the Broncos dominated the Bulldogs after beating them in Big Rapids on Friday night. WMU controlled the game and the shot total, outshooting Ferris State 42-25 on the night and 14-4 in the second period. Two of WMU's three goals came on the power play.
Freshman netminder
Frank Slubowski won his second game in a row, making 25 saves to earn his second career shutout. The Bronco defense helped him out by blocking 19 shots on the night, with freshman
Jordan Oesterle blocking a team-high five. Western Michigan also shutout the Bulldogs on the power play, with the penalty kill unit going a perfect 4-for-4.
The power play drought that was turned into a flood for the Broncos as they netted two goals win the man-advantage in the second period. Kessel struck first at 4:06 in the period when a centering pass by
Justin Kovacs went off his skate and through FSU goalie C.J. Motte's legs and into the net for his second of the year. Kovacs tallied his third assist of the season and
Kyle O'Kane picked up his second helper.
Just 1:52 later WMU pushed the lead to 2-0 on Walters' fifth of the season.

Shane Berschbach added his eighth and second on the weekend.
Walters added his second of the night late in the third period at 16:17 when he punched in a rebound on a shot by Berschbach. The goal gave WMU an insurmountable 3-0 lead to close out the game with Berschbach tallying his ninth assist of the season and
Matt Tennyson tallying his fourth.
