Balisy's Goal in OT Lifts WMU Over St. Cloud 2-1

ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- The Western Michigan picked up its 10th win of the season in dramatic fashion on an overtime-goal by Chase Balisy to beat St. Cloud State 2-1 in front of 4,148 fans on Friday night.

Dennis Brown picked up a pass from Dan DeKeyser at center ice and took it down the left side across the blue line. Brown took the puck just past the left circle and centered it to Balisy, who poked it through SCSU goalie Ryan Faragher's legs for the game-winner. The goal was the fifth of the season for Balisy, while Brown notched is second assist of the game in the win.

WMU picked up a goal from Matt Tennyson and Nick Pisellini made 22 saves for his fourth win of the season. The Bronco penalty kill unit killed off six of seven St. Cloud power plays on the night.

The Broncos once again took an early 1-0 lead on a power play goal by Tennyson at 10:45 in the first period. Derek Roehl fired a shot from the top of the right circle and the rebound went right out to Tennyson and he punched it in for his sixth goal of the season.

WMU gave up its third power play goal of the series when Ben Hanowski fired a shot that was deflected by David Eddy in front and past Pisellini to tie the game 1-1 just 1:08 into the second period.

The Broncos took four penalties in the second period, successfully killing off three of the four but it was the first one of the period that led to the St. Cloud goal.

Western Michigan heads back to Kalamazoo to host the defending national champion Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs with Friday's game being broadcast on national TV on the CBS Sports Network.
