Drew Nowak Becomes 16th All-American in WMU Football History

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Senior defensive tackle Drew Nowak was named Third Team Phil Steele All-America on Wednesday afternoon, becoming the program's 16th All-American and joining teammate Jordan White in 2011.

Nowak is only the third defensive lineman to earn All-America status in program history following Jason Babin in 2002 and 2003 and Bob Rowe in 1966.  Rowe was the last defensive tackle to earn All-America at Western Michigan.

The Green Bay, Wis., native, who was named Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Year two weeks ago ranks fifth in the country with 1.67 tackles for loss per game and fourth with 20.0 total TFLs in 2011.

White also earned Third Team Phil Steele All-America, giving him All-America status according to two national publications (Sports Illustrated, Phil Steel) and two national organizations (AFCA, Walter Camp).

Dann O'Neill joined White and Nowak earning First Team All-MAC honors from Phil Steele.  Freddie Bishop, Alex Carder, Anthony Parker and Johnnie Simon garnered second team acknowledgment, while White also earned second team honors as a punt returner.

Chleb Ravenell earned third team offense, while John Potter garnered third team kicker accolades from Phil Steele.

Western Michigan takes on Purdue in the 2011 Little Caesars Pizza Bowl on Dec. 27 at Ford Field on ESPN HD.  Call 1-888-4-WMU-TIX to get your tickets today.  Visit http://www.wmubroncos.com/bowlcentral for all of your LCPB needs.
