Head Coach Andy Murray
Thoughts
Heck of a hockey game? That's an understatement. It was a
tremendous hockey game. Notre Dame, I don't know how they're not the best team
in the country, I'd like to see who's number one. I never look at the rankings
and I know someone said they're two. I don't know who's one. The only time
rankings matter is in March. Our team works hard and I think you get what you
deserve. I thought we were deserving tonight.
How important was PK
tonight
We talked about how we had to be accountable every face off,
every power play, every penalty kill, and every shift tonight. 4-on-3, couple
of crucial penalties we had to kill off back-to-back. We were getting guys, we
were blocking shots, goaltender made some saves, it was fun to watch.
Thoughts on the 2nd
I thought we had a pretty energized group for most of the game.
There was a phase there right before we took the time out where I didn't like
what we were doing but for the most part I know we play pretty solid.
Slubowski
Notre Dame with the offensive firepower that they have, they're
gonna get some chances. What we had to do was we had to manage things, and when
we needed him, he was very good for us. You need that type of goaltender to be
successful.
Losing streak
It wasn't a losing streak, it was a winless streak! A losing
streak is when you don't compete. "Losing" to me is associated with the word
"loser," and a "loser" is someone who doesn't compete and doesn't battle. We
were winless, but we were continuing to battle, continuing to work hard. We
were on a winless streak because our effort was there in the game.
Keep momentum going
There's two words that are overused in sports. They're "momentum"
and "confidence." Everybody says "You should be good for the next game 'cause
you've got momentum." I remember St. Louis coach saying they won the last five
games the year before, so they had momentum going into the next season. What
the heck is that? You're only good as your next shift, so there's no such word
to me as momentum. The other thing that there's no such thing of is confidence.
It isn't something you can pluck off a tree, you have to earn it. You either
play good and you feel good, or you play bad and you feel lousy.
Did you see a confident
group out there tonight?
I saw a team that believed and worked hard.
We talked about the need to block shots. I don't know if there's
a better example of solid teamplay and sacrifice than blocking shots. A great
crowd, great energy in the building. A number of our students weren't here
tonight because they're already gone for Thanksgiving break, but it's a fun
place to be. I don't know if there's a better atmosphere in college hockey.

Good game to watch, what's
it like to play in it
It was a lot of fun. Came out flying at the start, ton of fun,
great game to play in, a lot of energy on both sides.
What was said on time out?
He was pretty mad at us. He thought we were playing pretty soft.
But we came back, we love to win, and we came out pretty hard and played a
little more physical.
PKs?
Everyone knew we had to step up. I think one time we had four
guys on the ice right in front of the net, that was cool.
Was your shootout plan
five-hole the whole time?
I knew I was going to go low blocker, he was giving me a little
bit.
What's it gonna take to win
next weekend?
They're a great team, number two in the country, and if we take
that same game into Ferris next friday we should be fine.

What was it like tonight?
It was really exciting. I felt comfortable, we played hard, and
got what we deserved.
PKs?
Guys sacrificing, that's what it takes, and I love to see that.
How'd you feel?
I just felt really comfortable and in the zone. Things were going
my way.
Winning?
It's a huge confidence boost. Just gotta battle hard, keep
getting better.
Shootout?
A little nervous, but you just gotta put yourself in a good
place.
