KALAMAZOO -- The Western Michigan women's soccer team advances to the Mid-American Conference Tournament Semifinals after defeating Ball State, 1-0, at the WMU Soccer Complex in the quarterfinals on Sunday afternoon.

Dianna Dedvukaj headed in the game-winning goal at 74:23 in the second period to seal the win for the Broncos. The play started with sophomore midfielder Megan Putnam controlling the ball in the midfield before playing it out wide to Stephanie Skowneski just as she was getting to the edge of the box. Skowneski pushed it forward deeper into the box and crossed it right in front of the net where Dedvukaj was waiting. The freshman forward out-jumped a Ball State defender to head home her third goal of the season. Skowneski picked up her team-leading ninth assist of the season and Putnam notched her third helper.

"Megan made a great play in the midfield to shield off a girl that was almost twice her size," said head coach Suzie Grech. "She had a great game today and that play really sparked the goal."

Both teams had trouble adjusting to the wind in the first half as the Broncos were the only team to land a shot on goal in the half. WMU had the wind at their backs in the second half and play increased on both sides, with Ball State outshooting the Broncos 8-6 in the second half and 13-10 on the game.

This is the sixth straight shutout for Western Michigan, improving upon the school record that the team set on Thursday. WMU goalkeeper Michelle Watson has been in net for every minute of it, also a school record, and had to make just three saves on the day as the Bronco back line limited Ball State's chances.

The Broncos advance to the MAC Tournament Semifinals for the second straight year and will play second seeded Central Michigan on Friday in Toledo. The time is still to be determined.
