KALAMAZOO, Mich.- Brittney Pavlica's goal with two minutes left in double overtime gave Western Michigan a 1-0 victory over Eastern Michigan Sunday. Pavlica's game-winner was her second of the weekend, as also scored in Friday's 1-0 win over Central Michigan.
Megan Putnam and Diana Dedvukaj connected passes deep in Eagle territory, Dedvukaj then slotting it over to the Pavlica on the backside. Pavlica sent her shot low to the right corner, past out-stretched Eagle keeper Maggie Manville.
It was Western Michigan's first overtime win this season. The Broncos (9-7-0, 5-3-0 MAC) have now won four of their last five.
"Today was a great win to a cap the weekend," said WMU head coach Suzie Grech. "Eastern Michigan was a tough opponent, but we were able to handle their pressure in the second half and get ourselves going in overtime. It was hard work and perseverance that paid off in the end."
"We pressed when Putnam found Dedvukaj down on the left side of the 18. She spotted the perfect ball to Pavlica for the touch in. It was such a great feeling after a very intense game."
Western Michigan kept Eastern Michigan under pressure throughout the game, totaling 23 shots and placing eight on goal. Stephanie Skowneski led WMU with six shots, putting two on frame. Anina Cicerone fired four, while Putnam and Caitlin Henderson each took three.
Eastern Michigan attempted eight shots in the game and WMU goalkeeper Michelle Watson made six saves. The shutout was Watson's sixth of the season and second in as many games.
Western Michigan concludes the regular season with three road games, traveling to Bowling Green, Miami and Northern Illinois. Friday's kickoff from Bowling Green is at 6 p.m.
