Men's Ice Hockey WMU

WMU vs. ND 2/5/2010 Quotes

Head Coach Jim Culhane:

On the overall effort:

"Just a great effort there from start to finish. Our goal was to try and set the tone of the hockey game. We haven't been at home here since Michigan weekend. We had a couple against Bemidji over the break, but we've been on the road since the Michigan game. We went out and tried to set the tone of the hockey game and we were able to do that in the first twenty minutes of play. Our play was pretty consistent all the way along. An outstanding power play there in the third."

On playing ahead:

"We've had a challenging time scoring goals. I'm happy for them that we worked so hard to try and create scoring opportunities, to have a night like tonight. We've talked about that twenty-five pound weight on our back. Hopefully, we cut that off tonight. It was a good team effort."

Defenseman Tyler Ludwig:

On the effort:

"Even before the game, all they guys were kinda loose and having fun in the locker room and that's something that we've been kinda missing. We've been focused on what we had to do and we got away from staying loose. Tonight, we just kinda went out there and had fun and remembered to play simple and keep things tight in the 'd' zone and get it in deep and it worked out in out favor."

On the penalty kill:

"They got a really good power-play and I think we tried to keep it simple. Every time we had a chance to get it down the ice, we did. When they got it in, we got a body on them and didn't allow them to start it."

Forward Jared Katz:

On the energy:

"I don't know what it was. It felt like we were more relaxed and a little more relaxed with the puck. I guess that contributed to it."

On his goal:

"I have no idea, I just threw it at the net and got lucky."

On his pass to set up Ryan Watson's goal:

"I chipped it by him (the defenseman) and I don't know if the defenseman knew where it was going. I beat him, spun off him and gave to Watson. It wasn't a great pass but somehow, he kicked it up to his stick and put it in."

Goalie Riley Gill:

On playing with an early lead:

"It was nice to get a lead and we sustained that pressure through the entire game. That's something we haven't done all season and it was nice to see that tonight."

"We've been struggling scoring goals so it got the weight off our back there in the first period. We popped a couple and got that 3-0 lead and we sustained that through the entire game. That's a big confidence booster for us here, moving forward towards the playoffs. Hopefully we can keep it up."
