MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- The Western Michigan women's soccer team lost a hard-fought match against MAC rivals Central Michigan, 1-0, in Mount Pleasant on Friday afternoon.
After battling to a 0-0 tie through the first half, Central Michigan's Laura Toth scored the game's only goal in the 47th minute after a handball call on Western Michigan gave CMU a free kick outside of the box. Toth fired on net from 25 yards out and it bounced past WMU goalie Jule Francy for the game-winner.
"If you don't come out and play your best, teams like this are going to give you problems," said head coach
Suzie Grech. "We gave up too many set pieces and they took advantage of it."
Francy made a game-high six saves in the loss and
Alison Szczypka,
Stephanie Skowneski,
Ali Jacobs and
Ali Bagley each landed a shot on goal for the Broncos. Western Michigan falls to 7-6-2 on the season with a 3-2-2 record in MAC play.
Western Michigan heads over to Eastern Michigan on Sunday before finishing off its regular season with three straight home games.
