Box Score

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- The Western Michigan hockey team fell to Bowling Green, 3-2, in front of 2,195 fans at the Bowling Green Ice Arena on Saturday night.

The Falcons were first on the board with a goal 9:32 in the first period. On a BGSU power play, James Perkin fired the puck wide past WMU goalie Riley Gill. The puck bounced straight back off the boards and on to the stick of James McIntosh. The sophomore back-handed the puck past Gill for his first collegiate goal.

Minutes later the Broncos leveled the score, 1-1, on a goal by Kyle O'Kane. A turnover in the neutral zone led to O'Kane picking up the puck just beyond the left circle. The sophomore winger went high on BGSU goalie Nick Eno's glove side and over his shoulder for his first goal of the season.

Bowling Green recaptured the lead at the 5:51 mark of the second period. The Broncos took their fifth penalty of the night, creating BGSU's fourth power-play chance. Ian Ruel shot the puck from the left point but it was stopped in front by McIntosh. McIntosh tried to spin and fire the puck on net but it ended up floating to his teammate, Josh Boyd. Gill had committed to the attempt by McIntosh and was on his back as Boyd floated it over him to push BGSU back in the lead, 2-1.

WMU quickly responded once again, this time by senior assistant captain Chris Clackson. Clackson took the puck from Ian Slater behind the net and put a wrap-around shot between Eno's legs for his sixth goal of the season. Slater tallied his fourth assist of the season as the game was squared, 2-2.

Bowling Green netted the game-winner with 5:08 remaining in the third period. Cameron Sinclair made a two-line pass down the ice to Jordan Samuels-Thomas and Thomas was all alone, beating Gill for his ninth of the season.

WMU tried to capture some of last night's magic by pulling Gill for the final minute but BGSU kept them off the board in the final minute.

Western Michigan continues its road trip when it heads to Miami next weekend. Both games will be televised with Friday's on Comcast and Saturday's on Fox Sports Detroit.
