PEORIA, Ill.- Sophomore Sam Meyer scored a second-half goal, but Western Michigan couldn't find another, dropping a 2-1 decision to Bradley Friday night at the Hotels at Grand Prairie Bradley Soccer Classic.
Bradley scored in the 26th minute when Grant Campbell made a center run and beat WMU freshman keeper Cody Camp, 1v1. Camp was making his first appearance of his collegiate career and made four saves.
Meyer's goal evened the score at 1-1 after the half at the 51:48 mark. Junior Ko Yamamoto ripped a shot on goal that was stopped by a Bradley defender. BU goalie Drew Van Kampen couldn't corral the rebound allowing Meyer to tap it in. It was the first goal of the season for Meyer and his career second.
Bradley scored the go-ahead goal in the 78th minute when Christian Meza placed a ball from the top of the box in the upper right corner of the net. Senior Casey Aubil checked in between the posts in the second half, surrendering the winning goal and thus taking the loss.
Western Michigan withstood an onslaught of shots in the opening period as Bradley fired off 19 in the first half. The Broncos however out-shot the Braves in the second half, 7-4.
With the loss, WMU falls to 0-3-0 on the season, while Bradley improved to 3-0-1. The Brown & Gold takes on Evansville tomorrow in the Bradley Classic at 5 p.m.
