Head Coach Jim Culhane:
On Ferris State getting the first goal:
"That's the momentum right there, whoever gets that first
goal. They were able to get it there, the first shift of the third period to
get the momentum of the hockey game. I really liked the way we played through
40 minutes of play. I thought we played in well in all areas and yeah, the
first goal was the momentum of the hockey game and they were able to find a way
to get it."
On the power play:
"Well, there's 30 seconds there on the five-on-three and the
key right there is to win the face-off. We didn't do that, they won the draw,
they were able to make the clear and we were trying to skate the puck into the
zone. By that time, that whole five-on-three, that has elapsed by then and
we're on the five-on-four. I thought we had some quality chances there in the
second period with some opportunities on the doorstep, so give Nagle a lot of
credit, he made some big saves. I thought Riley made some big saves for us,
too."
"Well, we got to get some goals. We'd like generate more
scoring opportunities on it and get some goals on it obviously. We had some
chances here tonight to. I think we're at a point right now where gripping our
sticks a little tight, maybe overanalyzing some things on the ice. It may take
one of those goals where maybe it's not very pretty, maybe it goes off a shin
pad, or a skate, or shirt and maybe break the ice for us. We generated some
chances there through the first 40 minutes of play there, and on the power
play, but again, Nagle was there to make the saves."
On the penalty kill:
"It continues to be a real strong point for us. What comes
to mind is the willingness of Clackson there in the first period, without his
hockey stick to just try to block shots and get his hand on it and push it to
an area. I thought our penalty-kill was strong."
Forward Chris Clackson:
On the penalty kill:
"When you get caught without a stick its pretty tough, but I
just found myself in that situation and found a way to get it done. I got
lucky, I got hit with a couple. Gill made some great saves there. It was a
group effort, we got the puck out and we helped and we got the kill."
On the power play:
"Power play is a complicated thing. You've got a lot of guys
out there trying to make a lot of plays and lately it hasn't been happening for
us. Hopefully, the floodgates are going to open here soon and we're going to
get three or four in a game. We've got a lot of guys working hard, trying to
make plays, and getting pucks to the net. Goalies are making pretty good stops
on us and we'll keep going at it. We're going to get power-plays every game,
and every game we gotta keep going at it and find a way to score on them."
Defenseman Tyler Ludwig:
On the overall effort:
"I think we still
played pretty well there in the third period. Just a few mistakes there at the
blue line. They capitalized on it. They got two breakaways there in the first
ten minutes. They're a good team and they capitalized. We just have to
eliminate our mistakes there."
"We kinda kept them to the outside and they had a few
in-tight shots and opportunities, but for the most part they were outside and
shooting pucks from out there and we gotta rely on Riley to make those saves."
On the penalty kill:
"It's something that we emphasize too, a lot. A lot of
blocked shots, Chris Clackson had a good shift there where he lost his twig and
still put his body in front of the puck a lot. It's something we gotta keep
working on, blocking the shots and getting it out of the zone, but we also gotta
stay out of the penalty box a bit more too and not give these guys the
opportunity to get up a guy on us."
On the power play:
"I thought we played well. The power-play was moving the
puck well, we just gotta find a way to get the puck in the back of the net.
Some good opportunities are coming from it, a lot of guys in fron t of the net.
We're getting some key opportunities we just gotta make the extra effort to get
that goal."
