KALAMAZOO, Mich. - For the second year in a row Tim Hiller and Phillip Swanson have earned First Team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV, making each eligible for Academic All-America at the end of the season.
Hiller is completing his MBA with a 4.0 GPA. He was recently named a National Football Foundation National Scholar-Athlete and a finalist for the William V. Campbell trophy as well as a finalist for the ARA Sportsmanship Award. He ranks fourth in the country in passing (26.67 completions per game) and total passing yards (2,509) and is 491 yards from becoming the first WMU QB to throw for 3,000 yards in back-to-back-to-back seasons.
Swanson is looking to become only the second Bronco to earn ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America in program history, matching the feat accomplished by Rich Kaiser in 1994 and 1995. He is averaging 80.0 offensive snaps per game this season and participated in a season-high 102 snaps in the Broncos' overtime win against Buffalo on Oct. 24. Swanson is also a member of an offensive line that is 176 rushing yards from blocking the way for a back-to-back 1,000-yard running back.
Voting for the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Teams begins, Tuesday, Nov. 10.
