COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Former Western Michigan Bronco and CCHA Rookie of the Year
Mark Letestu has been called up to the Pittsburgh Penguins after star center Evgeni Malkin suffered a shoulder injury that will cost him two-to-three weeks of playing time.
According to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Letestu will join the team today with possibility of making his NHL debut in Friday night's game at the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Letestu spent the 2006-07 season with the Broncos and instantly made an impact, leading the team in scoring with 46 points on 24 goals and 22 assists. Letestu was the top scoring rookie in the league and finished ninth in the CCHA in overall scoring. The Elk Point, Alberta, native signed a free-agent contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins after the completion of his freshman season.
He joins former Broncos Jamal Mayers (Toronto Maple Leafs) and Joe Corvo (Carolina Hurricanes) in the NHL.
