KALAMAZOO, Mich.- As part of "Think Pink" Cancer Awareness night, the Western Michigan women's basketball team will set school colors aside and wear pink uniforms on Wednesday, Feb. 13 against Buffalo, at 7 p.m. In partnership with the WBCA, women's basketball teams across the nation are helping to raise awareness about breast cancer during "Think Pink" week, Feb. 8-17.
All fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game on Feb. 13 in support of the cause. Designated promotions include; receive free admission to the game for wearing a pink shirt or something equivalent, pink ribbons will be distributed to fans along with pink magnetic clips. Donations to the Jimmy V Foundation for Cancer Research will be accepted on behalf of WMU women's basketball.
The WBCA's "Think Pink" initiative is a global, unified effort for the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.
The NCAA has also joined the WBCA's "Think Pink" initiative by implementing the "Calling for a Cure" campaign where all NCAA women's basketball officials will be blowing a pink whistle February 8-17.
The WBCA began "Think Pink" in 2007 as an initiative to raise breast cancer awareness in women's basketball, on campuses and in communities. In 2007, more than 120 schools unified for this effort and helped make the inaugural year of the WBCA's "Think Pink" a success.
