Broncos Fall to Eagles, 2-0

Box Score

YPSILANTI, Mich. -- The Western Michigan women's soccer team fell to Mid-American Conference rival Eastern Michigan, 2-0, on Friday afternoon at Scicluna Field.

Western Michigan (2-8-0, 1-2-0 MAC) goalkeeper Julia Francy made four saves but the Broncos allowed goals by Ashley Rodrigues in the 20th minute and Carissa Wilson in the 35th minute.

"We didn't play composed early on and allowed Eastern to set the tone, said head coach Mike Haines. "I thought we got the game under control but then Eastern scored their first goal on a counter attack. The last thing you want to do against a great defensive team like them is get down early.

Rodrigues' goal came off a cross, with Wilson scoring when she got behind the Bronco defense.

The Broncos had a good chance in the second half when Cassandra Nelson had a chance in on net, but EMU goalkeeper Monique Budani came off the line and was able to smother Nelson's shot. Western Michigan fired 12 total shots, landing four on goal but they were all saved Budani.

"It is always very difficult to beat a conference rival on the road," added Haines. "We have to figure out how to win on the road and that something that just hasn't come yet this season.

The Broncos travel to Central Michigan to take on the Chippewas on Sunday at 4 p.m.
