KALAMAZOO -- Kevin Hayward and Casey Cullen helped in the Broncos 7-0 win over Butler winning both in their doubles and singles matches Friday afternoon at the West Hills Athletic Club.
The Broncos won every match against the Bulldogs improving their record against Butler to 12-0. Hayward and Cullen started things off with an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles, while Alejandro Staub and R.K. Bacalla won 8-5 at No. 3 and Kazuya Komada and Michael Calderone won 8-5 at No. 1.
Hayward finished his singles match quickly at No. 1 allowing Eric Breitenbach of Butler to score only two points in two sets, 6-2, 6-0 while Cullen finished minutes later at No. 5 allowing his opponent Sam Brown of Butler to only score two points as well in both sets, 6-1, 6-1.
Kazuya Komada defeated Ben Raynauld at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-1 followed by Alejandro Staub defeating Bryce Warren, 6-1, 6-7 (8) (10-2) at No 4. singles. Michael Calderone fought a tough battle against Butler's Chris Herron but came out with a win, 7-6, 6-4, 7-5. R.K. Bacalla rounded out the win for the Broncos after defeating Brandon Bayliss on No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-7, 7-3 (10-5).
Brad Noel played two exhibition matches and defeated Butler's David Dolins 8-2 and Ben Shafer 8-2.
