Box Score
KENT, Ohio- The Western Michigan (9-14, 2-7 MAC) women's basketball team fell on the road to Kent State, 78-65, on Feb. 3.
It looked positive for the Brown and Gold after one half, but the ball didn't seem to bounce Western Michigan's way in the second period. Lindsey Brown scored 16 points and Tiera DeLaHoussaye added 15, but 21 of those combined 31 came in the first half. Carrie Moore was the game's leading scorer, notching her fourth double-double of the season with 20 points and 11 rebounds.
With her last basket of the evening, Moore became just the second player in school history and just the ninth player in the Mid-American Conference to reach 2,000 career points, currently with 2,001.
Kent State opened a 6-0 lead to start the game, but the Broncos battled back and rattled off 12 straight points to take a 12-6 advantage. WMU clung to the lead throughout the first half, as KSU pulled to within a basket on several occasions.
Owning a six-point lead and the last possession of the half, the Broncos got a big boost from freshman Jenny Loney. As the last seconds of the half ticked off the clock, Loney nailed a three-pointer from the right baseline, giving WMU a nine-point edge, 37-28, heading into the break.
The Golden Flashes started the second period much like they did the first, and put seven unanswered points on the board. KSU outscored the Broncos 15-3 over the first seven minutes and took a 43-42 lead at 15:57 when Kristin Peoples converted a three-point play.
Kent State continued to increase its margin, and with point guard DeLaHoussaye sidelined with four personal fouls, the Brown and Gold offense sputtered over the next six minutes. The Golden Flashes pushed the lead to double digits with 5:10 remaining, 67-57. The Broncos continued to fight in the unfriendly environment, but were unable to put together a late rally, and fell by a final score of 78-65.
WMU returns to action on Wednesday, with another tough road test scheduled at Buffalo.
