Box Score
DEKALB, Ill.- Four players scored double digits for Western Michigan (7-11, 0-4 MAC), but the Broncos could not hold off Northern Illinois (11-4, 3-1 MAC), falling 79-73 on the road.
Carrie Moore recorded a double-double for the second straight game, collecting 18 of the team's 41 rebounds, a career-high. She also was the game's leading scorer with 23 points. Tiera DeLaHoussaye added 16 points, going 3-for-4 from beyond the arc, while Lindsey Brown and Sarah Dreher each had 10 apiece.
Despite shooting just 30 percent in the first half, the Huskies took a 32-30 lead into intermission. NIU built the edge using four three-point baskets and 10 free throws. WMU had only two free throws and one three in the first period.
The Broncos took the lead, 34-32, scoring four-straight points after the break, and forced NIU to take a timeout to regroup. The Huskies then proceeded to build a 15-point advantage over the next seven minutes, owning a 56-41 lead with 11:56 remaining.
Western Michigan chipped away and clawed its way back in the game, as five Bronco players scored in the following six minutes. WMU had pulled to within three, 66-63, with 5:05 remaining after a Moore basket. That would be as close as the Broncos would come, and the Huskies closed out the game at the free throw line for the six-point win.
Four players reached double figures for Northern Illinois, led by Stephanie Raymond with a team-high 20 points, 16 of which came in the second period.
Western Michigan is back in action on Jan. 17, hosting Toledo at University Arena at 7 p.m.
