KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Martin Browne scored three goals to lead Western Illinois to a 4-0 non-conference win over Western Michigan Sunday at the WMU Soccer Complex. The contest marked the first meeting between the schools in 27 years.
Brown opened scoring with a header in the box after freshman goalkeeper Joe Cindric made two point-blank stops in goal. Cindric registered six saves in his first career start.
Brown completed his hat trick in the second half, sliding to tip a ball into the net in the 32nd minute, then accepting a through pass from Nick Bohnenkamp in the box for a low liner in the 56th minute.
The Leathernecks (6-4-0) finished with a 19-7 advantage in total shots, as WMU placed three shots on goal. The loss was just the second in the last 17 home games for the Brown & Gold.
WMU (2-6-0) continues its home stand on Wednesday (Sept. 27), taking on Oakland at 3 p.m.
