PEORIA, Ill. -- Western Michigan surrended a pair of goals 10 minutes apart in falling to Duquesne, 2-1, in the opening match of the fourth annual Bradley Classic, held at Shea Stadium.
The Broncos (0-1) jumped out to a lead behind Tom Oatley's tally in the 30th minute. Oatley, the team leader in goal-scoring (12) last year, was assisted on the play by Mattawan native Tyler Rosenhagen, who was making his collegiate debut.
The Dukes (1-0) responded with goals from Travis MacKenzie and Dan Morton in the 41st and 51st minutes respectively.
"During a critical time in the match, we didn't look sharp," admitted coach Chris Karwoski. "We came out a little sluggish in the second half and looked unsure of ourselves in certain situations. We pushed a lot of guys forward late in the game, but couldn't capitalize."
WMU continues play at the Bradley Classic tomorrow night, taking on St. Francis (Pa.) in the first-ever meeting between the schools.
