Bronco Alumn Jeff Campbell named ECHL's MVP

Jeff Campbell, who finished his collegiate career as WMU's 19th-leading scorer all-time, was recently named most valuable player of the ECHL (formerly known as the East Coast Hockey League).  The ECHL is a AA professional league consisting of 25 teams spanning the nation.

Campbell, 24, earned the CCM Vector Most Valuable Player Award after placing fifth in league scoring with 30 goals, 53 assists and 83 points.  He also posted seven game-winning goals and five short-handed tallies, the second-best marks in the league.  Campbell's league numbers were frozen late in the season when he was called up for eight games with the Lowell Lock Monsters of the American Hockey League.

The Hensall, Ontario native skates for the Gwinnett (Ga.) Gladiators, where he ranks as the team's all-time leading scorer and the only player in franchise history to record back-to-back 30-goal seasons.

"Hopefully, the new NHL will give a guy his size a chance to play," said Jim Culhane in describing his former star player to John McGourty of NHL.com.  "He's smart, he can score and make plays and he gets around the rink very well."

Campbell amassed 65 goals, 80 assists and 145 points in 149 games at WMU.  He shared team scoring honors as a sophomore and scored 26 goals his freshman season.  He made his professional debut with the UHL's Kalamazoo Wings before moving on to Gwinnett.
