Box Score
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.- Western Michigan (2-6) snapped a four-game losing streak with a 95-77 win over Texas-Pan American at the Air Force Classic Friday night. In WMU's most well-rounded attack of the season, 12 players scored and all 14 Broncos saw action.
WMU got a combined 53 points from seniors Lindsey Brown and Carrie Moore in the 18-point win. Brown was a force from the opening tip, collecting the first four Bronco points and rebounds. She finished the night with 24 points and 13 rebounds, recording her second double-double of the season and sixth of her career. Moore tied a career-best with five three-pointers, on the way to a game-high 29 points.
Western Michigan held a slim 36-35 advantage at the half, but stepped up play to run away with the game in the second period. Much of the reason UTPA was able to hang around early was due to its heavy half-court pressure and 1-3-1 zone. The Broncos committed 10 first-half turnovers, resulting in 11 UTPA points.
WMU adjusted on both sides of the ball at halftime and went to a zone defense of its own after intermission. The Broncos also picked up the offense and took care of the ball, giving up possession just five times in the second half.
Playing more aggressive, the Brown and Gold made it to the charity stripe 21 times in the second half, connecting on 16 chances. WMU shot 77.8 percent (28-for-36) from the line for the night. Pan American only made it to the free throw line 13 times total.
Tiera DeLaHoussaye also reached double figures for the Broncos, totaling 11 points and seven assists.
Western Michigan shot 52.6 percent from the floor and held UTPA to just 40.6 percent for the game. UTPA edged WMU on the glass, 43-40.
Tamara Vaughn led three players in double figures for UTPA (3-5) with 17 points.
The Broncos will play host Air Force (3-3) in the championship game of the classic tomorrow evening. The Falcons knocked off Yale in game one, 67-55.
