Broncos Edged by Xavier at Paradise Jam, 69-62

ST. THOMAS, USVI- Senior guard Carrie Moore led all scorers with 30 points, but it was not enough to hold off Xavier as the Musketeers edged Western Michigan, 69-62, at the Paradise Jam in the U.S. Virgin Islands. WMU falls to 1-5 while Xavier improved to 5-0.

WMU trailed by as many as 19 points in the second half, but clawed its way back into the game with a 25-9 run over a 10-minute span to cut Xavier's lead to three with 3:33 remaining. The Musketeers were able to hang on in the final minutes using two big three-point baskets and capitalizing on free throw opportunities for the seven-point win. Xavier held the advantage at halftime, 37-24.

The 30-point performance by Moore was the second highest of her career. Lindsey Brown had 14 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Tiera DeLaHoussaye paced the offense with seven assists.

Suntana Granderson led four Musketeers in double-digits with 17 points. It was the first time in four tries that Xavier was able to best the Broncos.

WMU shot 39.6 percent from the field and 78.3 percent (18-for-23) from the charity stripe on the day. Xavier was held to a season-low 38.5 percent from the floor, but won the battle on the boards, 41-36.

Western Michigan will play its third and final game at the Paradise Jam tomorrow, facing Auburn at 1 p.m.
