BIG RAPIDS, Mich. -- Western Michigan surrendered three goals in the third period in falling to Ferris State, 4-0, in Central Collegiate Hockey Association action from Ewigleben Arena Tuesday evening. Ferris leads the season series, 2-1, with the finale slated for Jan. 23 in Kalamazoo.
FSU struck 8:23 into the opening period, when Dan Riedel one-timed a shot to the right of goaltender Riley Gill on a pass across the crease from Matt Verdone. The Bulldog received goals from Zac Pearson, Eric Vesely and Jim Jorgensen in the third period to seal their first win in eight outings.
"I thought we played well at times tonight, but we couldn't cash in on scoring opportunities," said coach Jim Culhane. "It's disappointing not to come away with points on the road."
The Broncos went 0-for-4 on the power play and were outshot, 33-24. Gill finished with 29 saves in net.
WMU (5-6-1/4-6-1 CCHA) is off this weekend, returning to action Dec. 1-2 in a CCHA series versus Michigan.
