Box Score

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Western Michigan's saw its 2006 campaign come to an end with a 2-1 loss to Bowling Green in a Mid-American Conference Tournament Quarterfinal match held Tuesday afternoon.  The setback was WMU's first in five postseason games at the WMU Soccer Complex and snapped a seven-game unbeaten streak (6-0-1) against the Falcons dating to the 2002 season.

WMU opened scoring just seven minutes into the contest, as Terry Dowding redirected a shot from along the goal line that eluded goalkeeper Paul Shoemaker.  The goal was Dowding's team-leading eighth of the season.

BGSU (4-13-1) responded with two first-half goals.  Jacob Lawrence buried a one-timer in the 18th minute, which was followed by the game-winner from Arun Sathyanathan at 42:12.  Sathyanathan threaded a shot into the corner of the net from 15 yards out.

"You have to give credit to Bowling Green, they did the little things today that made the difference," said WMU coach Chris Karwoski.  "It's a tough loss considering we had success against them last week and had the home field."

BG recorded a 16-12 shot advantage as goalkeeper Casey Aubil made seven saves for the Broncos.

WMU finishes with a 6-12-1 overall record.
