KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Western Michigan received timely goal scoring and a boost from its defensive corps to post a 3-2 win over third-ranked Michigan State on "Blackout Sunday," the home opener at Lawson Arena Sunday afternoon.
Freshman Mark Letestu, captain Jeff LoVecchio and junior Mike Lesperance scored goals in the first, second and third periods respectively while the Bronco defense held the Spartans to 21 shots, including just one shot on goal in the third.
"It was a total team effort," said coach Jim Culhane. "We put more pressure on them offensively and received a another solid performance from Daniel in net."
The Broncos are now unbeaten in 27 of 37 games (22-10-5) versus ranked opponents at Lawson Arena over the last six seasons.
WMU (1-1-0/1-1-0 CCHA) plays host to Ferris State next Friday (Oct. 20).
