Box Score

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. (Jan. 7) ? Western Michigan winless streak reached seven games (0-6-1) with a 4-0 loss to Lake Superior State in a Central Collegiate Hockey Association contest held at Taffy Abel Arena.  In the process, LSSU swept the season series, 4-0.

Lake Superior (12-6-4/8-6-2 CCHA) scored twice in the opening period on tallies from Colin Nicholson and Trent Campbell.

A penalty-riddled second period saw the teams combined for 18 penalties for 58 minutes as a small melee broke out at the 2:28 mark.  LSSU added an insurance goal on Nathan Ward's bank shot off the pads of Daniel Bellissimo at the 3:59 mark.

“We wanted to come out of this weekend with some points and weren't able to do that, which is disappointing,” said WMU coach Jim Culhane.  “Give Lake Superior credit, they're a solid team behind goaltender Jeff Jakaitis.”

Western Michigan (4-13-3/4-8-2 CCHA) travels to Bowling Green next Friday (Jan. 13) to conclude an eight-game road trip.
