CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Western Michigan recorded its first win of the season with a 3-0 shutout of Georgia State at the Aaron Olitsky Memorial/Nike Classic hosted by the College of Charleston.
The Broncos opened scoring in the 20th minute when Edgar Rivera was tackled hard in the box, resulting in a penalty kick which Dustin Snyder converted on.
WMU added a pair of goals in the second half. Tom Oatley scored for the second straight game, finding the back of the net in the 73rd minute. Nashir Caraballi assisted on the play then scored three minutes later to seal the contest.
"I thought our speed up front was a little too much for Georgia State," said WMU coach Chris Karwoski. "We scored on some quality chances and I was pleased with our conditioning."
Western Michigan (1-1) travels to the St. Bonaventure Invitational next weekend (Sept. 10-11).
