Hockey Broncos Fall to Lake Superior State, 3-1

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Lake Superior State scored two goals in the final eight minutes of regulation to edge Western Michigan, 3-1, in Central Collegiate Hockey Association action from Lawson Arena. With the win, LSSU swept the weekend series.

The Broncos opened scoring on Jeff Pierce's even-strength goal scored 1:08 into the second period. The Lakers pulled even with a power play tally from Troy Schwab, then took the lead for good on Dominic Osman's shot at 12:18 of the third period. Colin Nicholson added an insurance goal with 2:49 left in the game.

Jeff Jakaitis made 31 saves to earn Perani Cup No. 3 Star honors as WMU finished with a 32-30 shot advantage. The Broncos were held scoreless on the power play (0-4) for the second straight night.

Western Michigan (2-4-0/2-2-0 CCHA) takes on Ferris State in a home-and-home series next weekend (Nov. 11-12), starting Friday in Big Rapids.
