KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Western Michigan's first league loss turned into a nightmarish affair as the Broncos fell to Lake Superior State, 10-0, at Lawson Arena.
The Lakers (2-2-3/1-2-2 CCHA) didn't waste any time getting on the board, scoring just one minute into the game on Jeff Rainville's wrist shot. Rainville (2-2) scored twice on the night as did Trent Campbell (2-2) and Troy Schwab (2-1), taking advantage of a 6-for-13 night on the power play.
LSSU finished with a 39-18 advantage in shots, forcing a change in the Bronco net. Freshman Ryan Mensing made his collegiate debut in the third period, replacing starter Daniel Bellissimo, who finished with 27 saves and six goals allowed.
WMU (2-3-0/2-1-0 CCHA) plays host to LSSU in a rematch Saturday night, starting at 7:35 p.m. at Lawson.
