KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Western Michigan saw a three-goal lead evaporate as Ferris State rallied for a 5-3 victory in Central Collegiate Hockey Association action from Lawson Arena.
WMU (2-6-0/2-4-0 CCHA) scored three times in the opening period, fueled by goals from Patrick Galivan, Jason Moul and Jeff Lovecchio.
FSU (4-2-4/3-1-4 CCHA), however, took advantage of a penalty-filled second period to pull even by going 3-for-7 on the power play. Dan Riedel, Zac Pearson and Greg Rallo provided the scoring as FSU finished with a 15-2 shot advantage during the middle stanza.
The Bulldogs struck twice more in the third period, forcing goaltender Daniel Bellissimo to leave the game due to dehydration.
"I think we worked hard tonight and got off to a great start," said coach Jim Culhane. "We were short-handed most of the second period and Ferris captalized."
Western Michigan meets Michigan State in a home-and-home series next week (Nov. 18-19), starting Friday in East Lansing.
