Western Michigan Edges Detroit, 3-2, in Men's Soccer

Box Score

DETROIT, Mich. -- Tom Oatley scored twice and Nashir Caraballi added two assists to lead Western Michigan to a 3-2 non-conference win over Horizon League regular season champion Detroit at Titan Field.

Oatley's goals in the 15th and 47th minutes gave WMU short-lived leads as UDM (10-5-2) battled back to tie the game twice.  WMU's Edgar Rivera finally put the game away with 15 minutes left in regulation, finishing a rebound in front of goalkeeper Sasha Soskovic.

"It was a very close game, a real sea-saw battle, but our guys never lost their focus," said WMU coach Chris Karwoski.  "We kept on working and are used to being in tight games.  I thought we played very well defensively, especially in the midfield where we really tightened down."

WMU (7-8-2) closes its regular season Tuesday at Oakland before opening MAC Tournament play on Nov. 8.
