KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Dustin Snyder's goal in the 32nd minute provided all the scoring Western Michigan would need in posting a 1-0 victory over Valparaiso in non-conference action from the WMU Soccer Complex.
In an evenly-played match, Snyder's second goal of the season proved to be the difference. His shot came from 15 yards out and found the upper right corner of the net.
"Dustin came out of his shell today and had a great goal for the game winner," said coach Chris Karwoski. "Our back line also really played well today and I'm happy with the effort we received from (GK) Brent Miller."
WMU (2-3-0) finished with a 20-17 edge in total shots as Miller finished with six saves for his second shutout of the season, the ninth of his career. Valparaiso (1-5-0) pressured the Bronco end late in the game, but could not sneak a shot past Miller.
Western Michigan hits the road to face Kentucky next Friday (Sept. 23).
