ABOUT US
The Western Michigan University Cheerleading Team brings high energy and unwavering support to every home Bronco football game, along with select away games, all home men’s basketball matchups, and women’s gymnastics meets. The squad also performs at alternating volleyball matches and women’s basketball games, pumping up the crowd and driving Bronco spirit to new heights.
In 2017, WMU Cheerleading made a triumphant return to the UCA National Cheerleading Competition in Orlando, Florida, securing top 10 finishes in the Small Co-ed Division from 2017 to 2020. In 2024, the team made history by competing in the Game Day Division and is eagerly preparing for a return in 2025.
As varsity athletes, cheerleaders adhere to the same rigorous standards as other varsity athletic programs. They are awarded varsity letter jackets after completing two full seasons, a symbol of their dedication and excellence. The team is selected through open tryouts each year, welcoming only the most talented and committed individuals.
In addition to game day performances, the cheerleading team makes regular appearances at community events, spreading Bronco pride and goodwill. A nominal appearance fee may apply to help cover travel and equipment costs. These events are vital in fostering a strong connection between Bronco Athletics and the community.
Being a WMU cheerleader is more than just a role—it’s a responsibility, and only the best need apply.
