  • Sunday, September 13th: 1:00pm-3:00pm
    • Informational Meeting
    • Learn material required for final tryout.
    • Interviews
    • Conditioning testing
  • Monday, September 14th: 7:00pm-9:00pm

Tryout Skills:

  • Partner Stunting (subject to change)
    • Toss Hands, Toss Cupie, Liberty, Heel-stretch or arabesque dismount
  • Tumbling
    • Standing Back Tuck
    • Standing Back Handspring Back Tuck
    • Running pass - Roundoff Back handspring series, tuck, layout, or full
  • WMU Fight Song
  • Sideline Cheer
  • Interview
  • Conditioning Test
    • Mile and a half run
    • Pushups
** All sessions are considered mandatory; you may be excused only with the permission of the head coach.**
** Proof of health insurance required for team participation.**

General Information:

  • All tryout participants must be currently enrolled or have been accepted to WMU.
  • The following forms MUST be completed prior to participation (attached as PDF). Please bring these forms with you to the first day of tryouts on September 13th, please DO NOT MAIL these to the Athletic Department.
    • Insurance Form (Must have proof of insurance)
    • Physical Examination Form (Physical examinations performed before August 2025 are considered EXPIRED and will NOT be accepted.) 
    • Must provide Fall 2026 Class schedule and current GPA (Returning WMU Students)
  • All portions of tryouts are CLOSED to the public; only applicants, coaching staff, and WMU athletic department staff will be permitted.
  • Tryout attire should be athletic shorts and a t-shirt (a plain tight fitted shirt is required for girls). Girls and Guys- No writing or graphics are allowed on t-shirt). This is a judged category; thus, you should consider clothing that is appropriate and appealing. No jewelry or body piercing will be allowed.
  • Squad (24-35 athletes)
    • Cheers football, men's & women's basketball, gymnastics and volleyball

About tryout weekend:

  • All tryout material will be taught Sept 13th.  A cut may be made after day one.
  • Final day of tryouts -Participants will be given a 30-minute warm-up period. Final Tryouts will immediately follow the warm-up session. Final scoring will be based on- partner stunting, tumbling, cheer, fight song, interview, appearance, and conditioning test.
