  • Saturday May 3rd- 9:00am-4:00pm
    • Informational Meeting
    • Learn material required for final tryout.
    • Interviews
    • Conditioning testing
(Please note that there will be a one hour break for lunch)
  • Sunday May 4th – 9:00am-2:00pm
    • Final Tryout

Tryout Skills:

  • Partner Stunting (subject to change)
    • Co-ed: Chair, Walk-in hands to Extension, Toss hands to Liberty, Heel-stretch dismount
    • All-Girl: Toss Hands, Toss Cupie, Liberty, Heel-stretch or arabesque dismount
  • Tumbling
    • Standing Back Tuck
    • Standing Back Handspring Back Tuck
    • Running pass - Roundoff Back handspring series, tuck, layout, or full
  • WMU Fight Song
  • Sideline Cheer
  • Interview
  • Conditioning Test
    • Mile and a half run
    • Pushups
** All sessions are considered mandatory; you may be excused only with the permission of the head coach.**
** Proof of health insurance required for team participation.**

General Information:

  • All tryout participants must be currently enrolled or have been accepted to WMU.
  • The following forms MUST be completed prior to participation (attached as PDF). Please bring these forms with you to the first day of tryouts on MAY 3rd, DO NOT MAIL these to the Athletic Department.

  2. Insurance Form (Must have proof of insurance)
  3. Physical Examination Form (Physical examinations performed before August 2024 are considered EXPIRED and will NOT be accepted.) 
  4. Incoming Freshman/Transfers must present your letter of acceptance to WMU.
  5. Current WMU Students must provide Fall 2025 Class schedule and current GPA
  • All portions of tryouts are CLOSED to the public; only applicants, coaching staff, and WMU athletic department staff will be permitted.
  • Tryout attire should be athletic shorts and a t-shirt (a plain tight fitted shirt is required for girls). Girls and Guys- No writing or graphics are allowed on t-shirt). This is a judged category; thus, you should consider clothing that is appropriate and appealing. No jewelry or body piercing will be allowed.
  • Co-ed Squad (8-10 females & 8-10 males)
    • Cheers football, men's & women's basketball, gymnastics and volleyball
  • All-Girl Squad (20-30 females)
    • Cheers football, men's & women's basketball, gymnastics and volleyball

About tryout weekend:

  • All tryout material will be taught May 3rd.  A cut may be made after day one.
  • Final day of tryouts -Participants will be given a 30-minute warm-up period. Final Tryouts will immediately follow the warm-up session. Final scoring will be based on- partner stunting, tumbling, cheer, fight song, interview, appearance, and conditioning test.
