KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Thanks to another strong season on the ice, four Broncos are up for various NCHC end-of-season awards, the league announced this afternoon.
Hampton Slukynsky is a finalist for the Goaltender of the Year and Three Stars awards,
Grant Slukynsky is up for the Sportsmanship Award,
Owen Michaels is in the top three for the Defensive Forward of the Year award and
Robin Hook has a crack at the Media Excellence Award.
The younger Slukynsky has played every minute between the pipes for the Brown and Gold this season, leading the NCAA in wins with 24. Additionally, he is fourth in the nation in shutouts (4) and ninth in winning percentage (.721) and saves (826).
The Los Angeles Kings draft pick was a Preseason All-NCHC selection and holds a 24-9-1 record to go along with a 2.32 goals against average and .913 save percentage. He has chipped in on offense too, handing out two assists in 34 starts.
The elder Slukynsky has been WMU's best player throughout the season, leading the team with 37 points on eight goals and 29 assists. He's been assessed just three penalties and has a +17 rating in 34 games. He's also been excellent in the dot, winning 303 total faceoffs this season.
The Warroad, Minn. native finished the 2025-26 conference season among the top 10 in assists (18, fourth), faceoff wins (219, seventh), faceoff percentage (54.1%, ninth) and points (22, tenth).
Michaels is one of the best 200-foot players in the league, scoring 24 points on 11 goals and 13 assists to help the offense. Defensively, he is one of the best in the nation at winning faceoffs. The Northville, Mich. native is third in the NCAA with 419 faceoff wins this season.
Along with that, the captain of the Broncos has helped produce one of the best penalty killing units in the country. The Broncos are riding a streak of 37 consecutive penalties killed and sit at 86.6 percent for the season. That mark ranks sixth in the nation.
Hook has been known as the "Voice of the Broncos" for more than 40 years, as he started to call WMU Hockey games in 1984. He has gone on to call nearly every game since then and has served as the play-by-play voice of the team for more than 1,300 games.
The Broncos will host Colorado College this weekend in the opening round of the NCHC Frozen Faceoff. The two teams will open the best-of-three series on Friday night at Lawson Arena. Puck drop is set for 7 PM ET. For tickets, visit WMUBroncos.com/Tickets.
