KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Fresh off of winning the National Championship, the Western Michigan hockey program has announced its team awards for the 2024-25 season.
The MVP award was shared by
Alex Bump and
Tim Washe. Bump also claimed the team's leading scorer award. The Prior Lake, Minn. native collected 47 points on 23 goals and 24 assists. He was named a First Team All-American along with being a unanimous All-NCHC First Teamer. Bump signed with the Philadelphia Flyers after the conclusion of the season. Washe captained the team to new heights, finishing the year with 38 points on 16 goals and 22 assists. He was the NCHC's Defensive Forward of the Year and made his NHL debut with the Anaheim Ducks following the season.
Hampton Slukynsky collected the team's Rookie of the Year honor. He ended the season with an impressive 19-5-1 record to go along with a 1.90 goals against average and .922 save percentage. Slukynsky was a Second Team All-NCHC honoree and made both the Fargo Region and Frozen Four All-Tournament Teams.
On defense,
Samuel Sjolund was named the team's Most Valuable Defenseman. He posted career numbers this year, finishing the season with 29 points on four goals and 25 assists. He made the Fargo Regional All-Tournament Team. Sticking with defense,
Brian Kramer earned the Plus/Minus Award. He was +28 in 42 games this season, while adding 17 points on two goals and 15 assists.
Owen Michaels didn't see a sophomore slump, as he posted terrific numbers in 2024-25. He collected the team's Most Improved Player Award. The Michigan native ended the season with 36 points on 18 goals and 18 assists. He scored four times in the Frozen Four to earn the Most Outstanding Player award.
Robby Drazner and
Grant Slukynsky were picked for the Sportsmanship Award. Those two combined to commit just four penalties all season long. Slukynsky was one of the top scorers on the team, recording 36 points on 10 goals and 26 assists. Drazner put up career-best numbers, posting 14 points on five goals and nine assists from the blue line.
A pair of gritty seniors also collected awards this season.
Cam Knuble was named the KOHA Grinder, while
Wyatt Schingoethe nabbed the Brown and Gold Award. Knuble had a career-best 15 points on five goals and 10 assists, while Schingoethe had a career-best 11 points on five goals and six assists. Both players recorded points in the National Championship game.
Finally,
Cole Crusberg-Roseen was given the Academic Award for his prowess on the ice and in the classroom. He currently carries a 3.97 GPA in Pre-Business Law. On the ice, Crusberg-Roseen was able to post 12 points on three goals and nine assists. All of those were career highs.
