BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Western Michigan women's basketball team wrapped up its regular season with an 80-54 loss at Buffalo on Saturday afternoon.
Megan Wagner led the Broncos with 10 points off the bench.
Marina Asensio had eight points and six assists, while
Hannah Spitzley led the team with six rebounds. Buffalo's Chellia Watson, the MAC's leading scorer, had 29 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Bulls.
Asensio hit back-to-back threes to start the game, giving WMU an early 6-3 lead. The Bulls went on a run to take an 11-7 lead before the Broncos responded with a 7=0 run to push ahead 14-11. Buffalo ended the first quarter on a 6-0 run to put the Broncos down 17-14. Western Michigan was outscored 13-7 in the second quarter, heading into the locker room down 30-21 at the half.
The Broncos were able to shave a point off the lead in the third quarter, outscoring the Bulls 22-21 but Buffalo built on their lead early in the fourth quarter and then pulled away.
Western Michigan is slotted as the No. 8 seed in the Mid-American Conference Tournament and will take on Ball State on Wednesday at 11 a.m. The game can be watched live on ESPN+ and heard live on the Bronco Media Network. Ticket information can be found at www.wmubroncos.com/tickets.
