Women's Basketball Heads to Ohio Looking to Lock In Trip to Cleveland

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan women's basketball team heads to Ohio University to take on the Bobcats on Wednesday at 7 p.m. for its penultimate game of the regular season.

The game can be watched live on ESPN+ and heard live on the Bronco Media Network.

WHAT'S AT STAKE
The Broncos (11-16, 7-9 MAC) sit tied for seventh with Central Michigan, but the Chippewas hold the tie-breaker making WMU the current eight seed in the looming MAC Tournament. WMU has a one-game lead on Northern Illinois, who sits at 6-10 in conference play and host second-place Toledo on Wednesday before wrapping up the season at fifth-place Miami on Saturday.

Ohio is out of the MAC Tournament picture with a 4-12 conference record. CMU plays at Miami on Wednesday and then hosts 11th-place Akron on Saturday. After the Bobcats, the Broncos head to second-place Buffalo to wrap things up on Saturday at 1 p.m.

ROAD SWEET ROAD
Ending the season on the road? No problem for the Broncos. WMU is 4-3 away from home in MAC play. The Broncos have wins at Eastern Michigan, Northern Illinois, Bowling Green and Akron so far. Western Michigan's two top scorers also performer better on the road in conference play. Splitzley averages 14.9 points per game at home and 16.9 on the road. Marina Assensio averages 12.6 at home and 16.0 on the road.

As a team, the Broncos shoot over 10 percentage points better from three on the road (36.3%) than they do at home (25.8%) in MAC play.

THE REMATCH
The Broncos and the Bobcats met back on Jan. 8 in Kalamazoo with Western Michigan coming away with a 66-49 victory. Ohio held a 32-27 lead at the half but the Broncos flipped the game on its head in the third quarter, outscoring the Bobcats 20-7 to take a 47-39 lead into the fourth quarter.

Western Michigan had four players in double-figures, led by Spitzley's 18. Asensio had 16 points, six rebounds and seven assists, while Maggie Stutelberg had 12 and Lauren Audino had 10.
