The Broncos opened the scoring in the third. Lucas Rick started the inning with a double, then came around to score on a single by Chris Akers.

Western Michigan added three in the fourth. Dylan Nevar led off with a double, moved over to third on a ground ball and was then brought home by Connor Ostrander. A two-out single from Brendan Harrity kept the inning alive for Rick, who launched a two-run shot to left field to extend the margin to 4-0.

Ty McKinstry was rolling early on the mound for Western Michigan, and kept Miami off of the scoreboard through his first four frames. The right-hander set down eight in a row at one point.

In the fifth, the RedHawks took advantage of an error to score three unearned runs and trim WMU's edge to one, 4-3.

The hosts then pushed across four more tallies in the bottom of the sixth to move ahead, 7-4.

Western Michigan pulled one back in the seventh. Akers and Tanner Mally got the ball rolling with back-to-back singles, and Grady Mee brought Akers home with a ground ball to get the Broncos to within two.

Miami answered, notching three in the home half of the seventh and one in the eighth to stretch the lead to 11-5.

Western Michigan and Miami close out their three-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch of game one is slated for 12 pm.
