KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan continued its postseason run by winning the NCHC Frozen Faceoff this past weekend. It was the first NCHC Tournament Championship in program history and allowed the Brown and Gold to retain its spot in the national polls.

The Broncos are ranked No. 3 in both the USCHO and USA Hockey/The Rink Live polls. WMU secured six total first-place votes this week, five from the USCHO poll and one from the USA Hockey poll. Western Michigan leads the nation with 30 wins heading into the big dance.

The Brown and Gold were joined by Denver, Arizona State and North Dakota in the national polls. Colorado College and Omaha were receiving votes. The Broncos became just the second team in NCHC history to win both the regular season and tournament championships.

WMU will be back on the ice on Thursday at 5 PM ET in the NCAA Tournament. The Broncos will take on Minnesota State at Scheels Arena in Fargo, N.D. This is Western Michigan's fourth straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
