KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan track and field team opens its outdoor season on Saturday at the Clyde Hart Classic. The meet is being hosted by Baylor.
BIG-TIME RETURNERS
Mabinty Kebe,
Sandra Ferrari and
Bri'Yanna Robinson return after producing great results during last year's outdoor season. Kebe won the 400-meter hurdles title at the MAC Championships before moving on to the NCAA East Regional meet.
Ferrari just missed out on titles in the long jump and 100-meter hurdles at the MAC Championships last season. She was an NCAA Regional qualifier in the long jump last season. Like her teammates, Robinson was also an NCAA Regional qualifier last season. She is the best shot putter in school history, holding the record she set last season.
TAKING A SHOT
Western Michigan has had success in the shot put over the last few years, and nothing has changed heading into this season.
Bri'Yanna Robinson,
Tess Van Dyk and
Lane Hagens all return after producing strong results in the event last year.
Robinson is the school's record holder in the event and she placed fourth at last year's MAC Championships. Van Dyk and Hagens were fifth and seventh, respectively, giving the Brown and Gold 11 points in that one event.
GETTING IT DONE IN THE CLASSROOM
The Broncos haven't just had success on the track, as they have a great record of producing results in the classroom as well. The Brown and Gold produced a 3.55 GPA this past semester, including 13 4.0 GPA's and 23 student-athletes with a 3.5 or higher.
