KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan softball team makes the quick trip to South Bend, Ind., on Wednesday to take on Notre Dame at 4 p.m. at Melissa Cook Softball Stadium.
The Broncos (8-18, 2-1 MAC) are fresh off a Mid-American Conference opening series win at Toledo. WMU took a double-header on Friday from the Rockets with wins of 3-2 and 8-6. In Saturday's loss, WMU tied the program record for home runs in a game, with four.
Riley Dittmar and
Analeez Niles each hit one, while
Jordan Smith hit two.Â
The Fighting Irish (12-16, 2-4 ACC) has lost its last three games, including a 3-2 decision against Indiana on Tuesday. UND is 1-4 in its last in its last five and have not score more than three runs in any of the games. Addison Amaral leads Notre Dame with a .367 batting average, making starts in all 28 games and has a team-best 29 hits. She also leads the team in RBIs with 23 and is one of four players tied for the team lead in home runs with three. Micaela Kastor has pitched a team-high 62 2/3 innings and has a 6-3 record with three complete games and was a part of two shutouts. Kastor also has a team-best 64 strikeouts and a 3.80 ERA.
