Broncos Fall to Cardinals in Series Finale

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Western Michigan baseball team dropped a 10-4 decision at Louisville in the finale of the two teams' three-game series on Monday.

FINAL SCORE: Louisville 10, Western Michigan 4
LOCATION: Jim Patterson Stadium (Louisville, Ky.)
RECORDS: Western Michigan (0-7) | Louisville (5-1)
W: Brennyn Cutts (1-0) | L: Reese Gaber (0-2)

Tanner Mally led off the game for the Broncos with a double, the first of his three hits in the contest. Brendan Harrity followed with a two-bagger of his own to put WMU on top, 1-0.

After Louisville pushed across a pair in the bottom of the first, Western Michigan came right back and evened it up in the second. Grady Mee started the frame with a base hit, stole second, moved to third on a ground ball and then came home on a Mally infield single to tie it up, 2-2.

The Cardinals regained the lead with two more in the home half of the second.

Mee got the Broncos back to within a run, 4-3, in the third, delivering a two-out RBI double which plated Connor Ostrander.

Louisville answered once again, tallying a single run in its half of the third to make it 5-3.

The WMU offense was limited in the middle innings, which saw the Cardinals extend their lead to 10-3 as the contest moved to the ninth.

In the ninth, Lucas Rick got the Broncos started with a pinch-hit single. With two on and two outs, Harrity briefly kept the Brown and Gold going with an RBI double, but Louisville closed the door after that.

Western Michigan continues its stretch of six straight games against ACC foes with a three-game set at Georgia Tech. The series opener against the Yellow Jackets is scheduled for 4 pm on Friday. The game will be broadcast on ACCNX.
