Arpachinda, Shannon, and Stout named to All-MVC Second Team

ST LOUIS -- Three Western Michigan men's soccer players have earned postseason recognition from Missouri Valley Conference Head Coaches.

Redshirt sophomore defender Christian Shannon, junior defender Braxton Arpachinda, and senior forward Jonathan Stout were all named to the MVC All-Conference Second Team on Sunday morning. Postseason awards were voted on by the eight Valley head coaches before being announced by the conference office before the start of the MVC Tournament.

Shannon was the only Bronco to be named to the All-MVC Second Team in his natural position of defender. Over the regular season, Shannon appeared in 17 matches with 16 starts for a total of 1,400 minutes on the pitch. In conference play, Shannon assisted on a goal in WMU's win over Drake for a point on October 31st. He also recorded four shots and one shot on goal in seven conference matches.

Arpachinda was named to the All-MVC Second Team as a midfielder despite mostly playing defense for the Brown and Gold in 17 matches. Arpachinda was one of two Western Michigan players to appear and start in all 17 matches during the regular season, playing a total of 1,413 minutes. He played a full 90 minutes in 11 matches through the season, and all but one Valley match. In seven conference matches, the junior scored a goal against Belmont for two points and took 12 shots with seven landing on goal.

Stout was the final Bronco named to the All-MVC Second Team, also as a midfielder despite playing a a forward for WMU. Stout made his presence known during conference play with two goals and 18 shots. The senior forward ended the season sixth in the Valley in goals with five and fifth in shots with 36. Stout led the Brown and Gold on offense in his only season with Western Michigan, scoring five goals through 17 matches for 10 points and took a team-high 36 shots. Stout was the other Bronco to appear and start in all 17 matches with Arpachinda.

UIC's Edouard Nys was named both the MVC Player of the Year and Forward of the Year. Evansville had three players earn specialty awards as Martin Wurschmidt was named the Defender of the Year, Andres Escudero was named the Freshman of the Year and Michal Mroz was named the Goalkeeper of the Year. Drake's Eskil Gjerde was named the MVC Midfielder of the Year to round out the individual specialty awards. Evansville's staff was named the 2025 Coaching Staff of the Year while Belmont earned the MVC Fair Play Award for receiving the fewest penalty cards through the regular season. 

WMU begins its quest to the MVC Tournament Championship match on Sunday afternoon at No. 3 Northern Illinois. The Brown and Gold enter the tournament as the sixth seed after earning a conference record of 2-2-3. Kick-off from the NIU Soccer and Track & Field Complex is set for 2:00 p.m. EST this afternoon.
