HOME SWEET HOME
Following a pair of wins last weekend at Buffalo, Western Michigan returns to Kalamazoo this weekend to begin a three-match homestand with a pair of contests against Bowling Green. The Broncos are 22-2 against MAC opposition at University Arena over the last three seasons.
LAST TIME OUT
WMU is coming off of a weekend sweep at Buffalo last week, topping the Bulls in four sets on Friday and then earning a straight-set victory on Saturday.
Leah Richmond collected a pair of double-doubles, and handed out 32 assists to help the Broncos hit a season-best .317 in Saturday's sweep.
Mary Clare Brusek paced the attack with double-digit kills in both matches and an average of 3.57 per set while posting a .321 hitting percentage.
BOYER'S MILESTONE
Moved to the libero role last weekend,
Reeghan Boyer excelled defensively, racking up 33 digs (4.71/set) in the two matches. She totaled 22 digs in Friday's series-opening victory, with her 21st of the night marking the 1,000th of her WMU career.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE MACHINE
Leah Richmond continues to rack up the double-doubles for the Broncos and added two more last weekend at Buffalo to bring her season total to 17. The redshirt freshman opened the series with 51 assists and 12 digs on Friday, and followed that up with 32 assists and 12 digs to help the Brown and Gold hit a season-best .321 in Saturday's sweep. For the season, Richmond leads the MAC at 9.89 assists per set, and ranks fourth in NCAA Division I with 811 assists. She has upped her average to a league-best 10.91 assists per set in league play.
DIGGING IN DEFENSIVELY
Western Michigan's defense has been one of its hallmarks this season, starting in the back row with
Elana Erickson, who leads the conference in digs per set at 4.39.
Leah Richmond is also among the league's top-10, averaging 3.23 digs per set. The duo has WMU fifth in the nation in both total digs (1,465) and digs per set (17.44).
BRONCO BLOCK PARTY
WMU has recorded double-digit blocks in eight of its first nine conference matches.
Amanda Glanton has led the way up front for the Broncos, and is pacing the MAC in both total blocks (51) and blocks per set (1.42) in league play.
SERIES HISTORY
Western Michigan enters this weekend with a 46-30-1 advantage in the all-time series against Bowling Green. Last season, the Falcons won both regular season meetings on their home floor, but WMU won a five-setter which knocked BGSU out of the MAC Tournament in the semifinals.
