KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan University women's basketball team concludes Mid-American Conference play against Ohio University at University Arena, on Wednesday, January 8, at 7:00 PM on ESPN+.
Last Time Out
The Broncos dropped Saturday's contest to Miami University (Ohio) 57-51 last Saturday. In the loss, junior Marina Asensio scored a team-high 16 points, while graduate student Hannah Spitzley tied a game-high with seven rebounds. In the loss, Spitzley improved her career three-point total to 97, her steals total to 159, and her blocks total to 54. The graduate student is now tied with both Kamrin Reed (2016-20) for the 17th most three-pointers made in program history, and Meredith (Shipman) Applin (2013-17) for the 13th most steals by a Bronco. Additionally, Spitzley moved within 12 blocks from tying Amanda Parker (2004-08) for the 10th most blocks recorded by a Bronco in program history.
Scouting The Bobcats
Ohio University enters the contest with a 3-9 record (1-1 MAC) after snapping a five-game losing streak with a 71-55 win over Northern Illinois University Saturday. During the Bobcat's victory, sophomore Bailey Tabeling scored a career-high 28 points after shooting an efficient 11-23 from the field. This season, Tabeling is averaging a career year and is posting personal highs in points (12.9), assists, (2.6) rebounds (5.0), and steals per game (1.9).
Ohio's leading scorer, senior Kennedy Watkins, is also recording career bests, averaging 14.9 points per game, behind personal highs in field goal percentage (50.8%) and three-point field goal percentage (33.3%). In six of her 10 games played this season, Watkins has posted at least 15 points.
Series History
Since 1999, the Broncos hold a slight advantage in the series at 16-15. The Brown and Gold are looking to win their sixth game in their last 10 matchups against the Bobcats on Wednesday.
