Broncos Drop Tight One to BGSU, 83-79

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's basketball team dropped a close decision to Bowling Green, 83-79, on Tuesday night at University Arena.  
 
Western Michigan (3-11, 0-2 MAC) had five players score in double-figures for the fourth time this season. Owen Lobsinger netted a team-high 12, Max Burton, Brandon Muntu and Chansey Willis Jr. each scored 11, and Markhi Strickland rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points. Lobsinger led the Brown and Gold with eight rebounds, while Willis dished out a team-leading four assists.
 
Neither team got much separation in the early going as the lead changed hands four times in the first half of the opening period. With Bowling Green (6-8, 1-1) holding a 22-20 edge, the Broncos ripped off 15 straight points to go ahead 35-22 with just under five minutes remaining until halftime. WMU reached its largest cushion of the night, 41-27, when Donovan Williams capped a personal 6-0 run at the 2:27 mark. The Falcons proceeded to notch 11 of the final 12 points of the half to trim Western Michigan's advantage to 42-38 at the break.
 
The Broncos tallied five points in the opening minute of the second to build the margin back to nine, 47-38. BGSU answered with a 15-4 surge to climb back in front, 55-53, with 12:10 remaining. The Falcons built their edge to 62-57 before Western Michigan rattled off seven in a row to wrestle the lead away, 64-62, with five minutes to go.
 
With the game level at 68-68, Bowling Green used a six-point burst to seize a 74-68 edge with just under two minutes remaining. WMU got no closer than four the rest of the way, as the visitors closed out the game from the charity stripe.
 
The Broncos hit 48.4 percent (30-of-62) of their field goals in the contest, while the Falcons made 53.4 percent (31-of-58).
 
Western Michigan hits the road for its next two contests, starting on Saturday afternoon at Miami. Tip between the Broncos and RedHawks is set for 3:30 pm on ESPN+.
